Free Crypto & Digital Asset Estate Planning Guide
Digital Asset Inventory & Access Workbook
Written by the attorney who could not find her own late husband's crypto
What's Inside
The written, trust-integrated inventory every crypto holder should give their family — covering exchange accounts, hardware wallets, seed-phrase custody, passwords, 2FA devices, and an executor letter template. Designed to be printed, completed offline, and stored securely.
Step 1. List every exchange account (Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini, Binance US, etc.) — email, username, account ID, rough holdings
Step 2. List every self-custodied wallet — device type (Ledger, Trezor, software wallet), chain, approximate holdings
Step 3. Document seed-phrase custody — where the seed is stored, who has access, and how it gets reconstructed
Step 4. Document 2FA devices and backup codes — phone, authenticator app, hardware key (YubiKey) location, SMS fallback
Step 5. Document email and password-manager access — master password custody, recovery contacts, break-glass procedure
Step 6. Title custodial accounts in the name of your revocable living trust where the exchange permits it
Step 7. Name a digital fiduciary in your estate plan with specific authority under Texas Estates Code Chapter 2001
Step 8. Provide a successor-trustee instruction sheet — what each wallet is, how to access it, what to do first
Step 9. Document cost basis and acquisition date for every significant position for step-up-in-basis planning at death
Step 10. List on-chain business assets — DAO treasuries, multisig signatures, NFT collections, staked validator nodes
Step 11. Identify which assets should be converted or simplified before death to reduce executor burden
Step 12. Review and re-sign this inventory annually, or whenever holdings or custody arrangements change materially
