Real Estate & Litigation Attorney
Stephan D. Hwang
“Title work since 2003. Commercial and real-estate litigation since 2007. Federal courts and the Fifth District Court of Appeals. The kind of attorney you want when paperwork stops being routine.”
Biography
Stephan D. Hwang
I am Stephan D. Hwang, a Texas real estate and commercial litigation attorney at WG Law. Since 2003 I have handled title work and real estate transactions across Dallas, Lewisville, Collin County, and the broader DFW metroplex. Since 2007 I have litigated real estate, commercial, and employment disputes — including arguments before the Fifth District Court of Appeals in Dallas. The two halves of that practice — getting the deal closed correctly and defending it when something goes wrong — sit close together in my office, and they should sit close together in any client relationship that involves significant property or business exposure.
Before law I earned a Master of Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1998. I then attended SMU Dedman School of Law, where I interned with the Fifth District Court of Appeals in Dallas. I was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 2002 and have been licensed continuously ever since. I am also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Eastern Districts of Texas and their respective Bankruptcy Courts.
A real estate transaction is a deal until it isn't. The hour the dispute starts is too late to find out your title attorney is not also a litigator.
I have served as Fee Attorney for major Texas title companies since 2003 — Chicago Title from 2003 to 2007, Stewart Title from 2007 to 2010, and now Secured Title of Texas. Across that work I have handled residential and commercial closings, title defects, deed disputes, lien priority issues, and the long tail of cleanup that follows a transaction once everyone else has moved on. The detail work that makes a closing go smoothly is the same detail work that makes a closing defensible if it later ends up in court.
On the litigation side I have practiced commercial, real estate, and employment law since 2007 — first through my own firm Stephan D. Hwang PC and now at WG Law. My federal bar admissions and appellate experience mean a case that begins as a contract dispute does not have to leave the firm if it escalates to federal court or to the appellate level. I have argued before the Fifth District Court of Appeals in Dallas and built a practice around being the lawyer who can take a case from desk to courtroom without handing it off.
At WG Law I work alongside Taylor Willingham, Carla Alston, Therese Gutierrez, and Philip Burgess. I bring the real estate and litigation depth that complements the firm's estate planning, probate, and elder law practice — because real estate often shows up inside an estate plan, and disputes often follow the largest transactions a Texas family will ever make. If you are buying or selling significant Texas property, forming or restructuring a business, or facing a commercial or real-estate dispute, I would be glad to meet you.
